Lincoln Update

Blogging has been rather difficult for me but, there are many things I wanted to write about before I forget. To be honest I don't think my blogging will improve much before August this year, unless I find a bunch of extra time. But, this is a form of our family journal so I thought I better write out some updates about our little man Lincoln.

Time is going by really fast, it is hard to believe that Lincoln is already 15 months old. We love him so much and (although we didn't think this could be possible) we love him more each day. Lincoln has issues with any food that he, a) has never tasted, and b) has a different texture. But, all it takes to get him to eat it, is put back in his mouth 3 to 4 times and by then he will finally realize he likes it! He likes to drink out of our cups, but we avoid this at all times, since he has yet to master the ability to control the amount he attempts to put in his mouth. When he wants to tell us he is done eating he simply takes everything off his tray and attempts to put it all on the floor (something I am continually trying to work on).

Lincoln started walking right around 13 months, and it took him about 3 weeks after that to transfer from crawling to walking at all times. He loves to run in the house (on carpet), but he is still a bit nervous about walking outside. One of his favorite things to do is to watch people. He often comes off as unfriendly because when strangers talk to him or greet him (like in the park) he just stares at them with a very unfriendly face. But, after he "figures" you out he is all smiles. Linc is our "nosy" boy, in church when other kids are crying, yelling, laughing, what ever, you name it, he will STARE you down and turn his entire body to see what is going on.

During the last few months Derek and I often find random things in our shoes. This is a present left from our son. :) He loves to put things into anything that has a hole. We now check our shoes on a regular basis. He will sit for many minutes (45+ minutes), pulling an item in and out of a box or something of that sort. He is also obsessed with buttons and anything that lights up. Currently, everything is a phone to him, be it a shoe, card, paper, pencil, you name it, and he will just put it on his ear and talk in his Linclish (Lincolns great attempt at English).

Our Linc has the best laugh and when he gets overly tired often times he will just laugh over nothing. He loves to be tickled and chased. I always tell people that our Linc is not a showster (meaning about 95% of the time he will not do anything for you on cue), he can give kisses, high-fives, clap, blow kisses, hugs, etc. But, most of the time this is on his own time and when you least expect it. But, don't get me wrong if he is wanting to show off...he will.

Lincoln loves to dance. In our house we often have some sort of music on during the day at all times. One of mine and Lincs favorite things to do is to slow dance (I just hold him in my arms and "dance" with him). But, he also likes to dance solo. He will often do what looks like a squat dance, by doing what looks like repeated squats, while listening to music. He will turn, twirl, and sway.

He is very aware that Daddy leaves for work most days and when he comes home he of course almost always comes through the same door. So, during the day if I mention Daddy, he will often go and "see" him at the front door. And if he hears Daddy come in before I do, he runs toward the door and says "Da".

As mentioned above Lincoln loves to talk but, in his Linclish. But, there are a few things that he says:

Da (Daddy)
Mama (only when he is sad)
Ba (for Boo, Book, Bottle)

He has been watching signing time since he was tiny but, honestly has very little interest in signing. I try and teach him but, most of the time he does not do them back. A few of the signs that he does know and will do on occasion are: More and Milk.

Lincoln is learning to point to his eyes, ears, mouth and nose (when when we ask him where they are). The only problem with that is, he often pokes his own eye out. :) For the most part, he is not a cuddly kid, but every once in awhile he will cuddly right up to you and it is the sweetest and shortest thing.

He is still a wonderful sleeper. He sleeps 11-12 hours each night and takes one long nap (3 hours) and a short nap (1.5 hours) each day.

Lincoln is 100% a Mommas-Boy. Some of the things he does for me is when I pick him up in the morning he will often pat and rub my back. Most recently he and I were sitting on the floor watching something and he came up to me and rubbed my back for about three minutes! He loves to try and feed me as well. Truly he does the things I do for him, which is so sweet.

He LOVES to play with his Daddy. I don't know that I will ever match up to Daddy's "funness".

Linc has had more than 10 haircuts in his life. His hair grows so fast and both Mommy and Daddy like to keep it short. Cutting his hair is not always easy but, we give him a sucker and that keeps him calm enough to do a quick cut. He simply DOES NOT like to be held down by anyone or anything.

Currently he has 8 teeth and I think more on the way. He teeth truly are adorable. I think everyone that sees him (strangers, family, friends, etc.) always, comment on his cute teeth (so this is not Mom being biases).

He has learned (much to my chagrin) to take off his diaper. If it was up to him he would be naked at all times. We are finally trying to get him use to wearing shoes and that has been a feat in and of it self. But, each day gets a bit easier. We still use cloth diapers and love them. Although, due to the amount of sleep he takes during the night we put a disposable diaper on each night to avoid leaking. He, like most moving kids his age, HATES having his diaper changed. And in addition to "hates" he also HATES having his teeth brushed, but its something Mom insists on doing.

We are working on teaching Lincoln what he can and cannot do. He loves to get into the garbage and any of the cupboards at his reach. He has also continuously pulled all of my jewelry out from its jewelry box, just yesterday I finally turned it around so he couldn't do that anymore. We know when he knows he when he is doing something wrong, because he does it REALLY fast in hopes that we won't notice.

He has mastered the stairs but, still terrifies me. He can go up them with no problem, but when he goes down after descending each step he likes to stand up and look back over his shoulder to see his progress.

Today, we had our first incident of having to call Poisson Control. I was going to start cleaning the bathroom when the phone rang, so I put the Ajax on the toilet and thought I had closed the door. Well, I was wrong and when I came back he had pored it all over the place. It didn't seem as though he had eaten it or that any of it was in his eyes. So, I called Poisson Control just to confirm that I should not be concerned. I was grateful to hear that he should be just fine!

Some of the foods Lincoln likes today: pasta (mostly spaghetti), carrots (cooked and raw), green beans, peas, toast & bread, eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, cheese, chicken nuggets, anything with sugar, and so on.

We love this little man and continue to look forward more adventures with him!

I have to laugh because he sounds so opposite of Cora in so many ways...but it seems like they are going through the same challenges! Sorry we can't be neighbors....but we can still visit, right?
