Dustin came early, much to our surprise.  His due date was September 22nd and on August 29th this is what started happening …. That day, I was cleaning up and doing something that I was not able to do the day prior due to hosting Book Club at my house.  I was kind of in a mode of getting things done and so much so that I even mowed the lawn! Well, at about 9pm that night my back was hurting and I thought it was just from all the work and cleaning that I had done that day.  Derek got home at about 10 from flying and I complained to him about my back pains.  Prior to this night I had had two other night within two weeks of contractions throughout the night, but they never seemed intense enough and by the morning they went away.  But, my back pains got worse by the hour. At about 11 we laid down and went to bed.  I couldn’t sleep after laying there for an hour or so, so I just got up and took a hot bath and a few other things I thought would help my back feel better.  But, by 12am I started to have contractions and they were much different from the previous contractions I had had the prior weeks before that.  I really didn’t want to go in and be sent back home and look like an idiot for thinking I was in labor but, was nothing close to it.  But, I was hurting MORE by the minute and thought that maybe something was wrong, so I should just get checked out.  So, at 2:30am I woke Derek up.  In his words he would say that I screamed at him to get him up, but, in fact he was the one that was startled and screamed at me. LOL  We talked about what to do, since our plan to have Kami (Der’s sister) come get Linc if we go into labor during the night was out since she was out of town.  We decided they were just going to send us home, so we’d just take him with us and when and if that changed we’d call someone to come get him from the hospital.

When we arrived I had Der just drop me off so he could park and I could start checking my self in.  The people at the ER, kind of rolled there eyes, as I walked up to them saying, that I might be in labor… sigh.  So, as the nurse came down with a wheel chair (of which I really didn’t need), and Der and Linc walked in the door on we went to see what was going on. The nurse had me get into the hospital gown and checked me.  Much to her surprise I was at a 5! She then said, she would call the doc and see what he wanted to do.  The Doc wanted me to sit there for an hour without getting up much to see if labor was progressing.  So, I sent Der and Linc home and said, I’d call them. By the end of the hour I was almost at a six and they had decided I needed to be admitted and was going to have the babe early.

By 8 that morning I was at an 8, and in very little pain.  So, my doctor, Dr. Lowder was trying to convince me to not get an epidural and he would break my water at that point.  But, Derek was not there yet and I really didn’t want to have this baby without him.  So, I said I will wait.  At 8:30 I got an epidural and Derek arrived finally.  I really think I could have done it without the epidural but, I was nervous!  The doc came in and broke my water and thought I would have the baby within the hour.  Well, to no surprise the epidural slowed me down a LOT!

At 12:00 pm Dr. Lowder came to check on me, and I was at a 10, so they got everything set up and I was pushing at 12:15, and Dustin was born at 12:32.  He was healthy and so sweet!  For the first week he had more of a squeak than a cry.

Dustin weighed 6lbs 8oz and was 20.5 inches!  We are all in love! IMAG0209
